As part of Erasmus Days, Kino Zona, in collaboration with the University of Zadar and the student organization ESN Zadar, invites you to a free screening of a popular French movie from 2002, The Spanish Apartment (L’auberge espagnole). The film depicts an unforgettable Erasmus adventure of students from various European nations, who find themselves sharing a small apartment in the heart of Barcelona. The narrative follows the protagonist, Xavier (Romain Duris), a student of economics from Paris, who is forced to apply for Erasmus to improve his Spanish and secure a promised civil service position after his studies. With a pledge of fidelity, he bids farewell to his beloved girlfriend (Audrey Tautou) and departs for Barcelona, where he is swiftly immersed in a “cultural melting pot”—an apartment shared with international students. An Italian, an Englishwoman, a Dane, a Belgian, a German, and a girl from nearby Tarragona join him in a series of escapades, helping him navigate turbulent times and teaching him the art of savoring life. The Spanish Apartment achieved remarkable commercial success in France and the EU upon its release. At the film’s premiere, director Cédric Klapisch revealed that the inspiration for the screenplay stemmed from a visit to his sister, who, much like the film’s characters, participated in the Erasmus mobility program in Barcelona. *The entrance is free; however, we recommend making a reservation by sending a message to the Kino Zona profile on Facebook/Instagram, emailing info@kino-zona.com, or sending an SMS or WhatsApp message to 099/7208342. *The screening of the film is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. *Kino Zona’s program is supported by the City of Zadar, Zadar County, the Tourist Board of the City of Zadar, the Nova Culture Foundation, and the Croatian Audiovisual Center, and is carried out in partnership with the Concert Office Zadar.
